GLOBAL ENDEAVORS - PROJECTS
Ghana - Larabanga
Global Endeavors is working with the Larabangan community to design and develop a sustainable and environmental friendly building that will house a clinic and community center.

History: A a small town in northwestern Ghana, Larabanga is home to over 4,000 people. Men, women, and children fetch their water daily, though it oftentimes contains guinea worms and other water-borne parasites. If medical attention is needed, the patient must walk for hours or wait for a passing car, which could take hours or even days. The tragedy of it all is that there is a clinic in the district, a four hour drive away, however the roads are so poor that women often die in childbirth, and children from preventable diseases and snakebites because they cannot access a primary care facility to triage their ailments.

Mission: Global Endeavors has teamed with Denise Ginsberg MD, to fundraise $100,000 for the purpose of building an environmentally friendly building that will house a medical facility, library, and cultural center, is taking place in Larabanga, Ghana.

Vision
Upon completion, the Ministry of Health has approved the adoption of the Global Endeavors Center into the Ghanaian healthcare system. They have agreed to provide us with certain free vaccinations and a staff of at least two full time nurses, amenities that are only provided to certified healthcare facilities in Ghana. Throughout and after completion of the building the physical structure of the Center, Global Endeavors will expand to provide free educational materials, such as computers and textbooks, to the children of Larabanga. The medical clinic has been designed such that part of it is home to a library, location for the women's shea nut cooperative, and an after school care center. Also at the center, men, women, and children will work on local crafts in their free time to sell at fair trade markets in order to generate a sustainable local economy.

Short Term Vision:
A Global Endeavors team will be traveling to Ghana this during the summer of 2010 to help build the clinic alongside the community members and facilitate a co-operative with the Larabangan women and their shea nut products. Click here to donate to help complete the clinic!

In Larabanga, we will be designing and begin building a six room clinic/community center that will serve as an emergency treatment facility. The Global Endeavors clinic will be staffed by midwives and nurses, along with international medical student volunteers. We will also spend this year working with the shea nut processing group to design and build the most efficient plant for the community. Long Term Goals:
Upon completion, the clinic in Larabanga will become incorporated into the Ghanaian Ministry of Health hospital system. In doing so, the clinic will be eligible to receive vaccinations and a full-time staff. Community leaders would also like to see the development of monthly healthcare workshops on topics valuable to the community. As Medical Doctors, Registered Nurses, Dentists, and Public Health professionals, the Global Endeavors board will continue traveling to Larabanga to further expand our public health and medical care projects. When the Global Endeavors clinic proves fully established and self-sustainable, additional clinics will be built in other medically underserved areas of Ghana and the rest of the world. As fully-trained professionals, the Global Endeavors Board of Directors will continue to encourage younger generations of healthcare providers to join with Global Endeavors in address pressing health issues worldwide.
